<p>Card reader for chip cards has a housing with a plug-in socket (14) at its forward end and an insertion slot at its rear end into which a chip card can be inserted. The housing corresponds at least partially to an express card standard with the width of the base plate (10) and the cover plate in the area of the card insertion slot equal to 54 mm.</p>
