PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin optical pickup unit and a disk driving device. SOLUTION: This optical pickup unit is provided with a base chassis 30, a disk table 31 having an optical disk 4 rotatably chucked, an optical pickup 32, guide shafts 34 and 35 supported on the base chassis 30 to guide the movement of the optical pickup 32 in the diameter direction of the optical disk 4, a lead screw 60 supported in parallel with the guide shafts 34 and 35 to engage the optical pickup 32 via a rack member 50, and a pickup conveying mechanism having a drive motor 61 for rotary-driving the lead screw 60. The drive motor 61 is positioned outside a projection area with respect to the base chassis 30 of the optical disk 4 chucked on the disk table 31. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
