<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the failure of an optical fiber on the spare side that connects an apare optical output means to an optical path means. <P>SOLUTION: In this optical communication apparatus, an active optical output means 1 converts an electrical signal into an optical signal, and outputs it, and a spare optical output mans 2 is the spare of the active optical output means 1; an optical path means 4 is connected through an active optical fiber 3a to the active optical output means 1; and the optical path means 4 is connected through a spare optical fiber 3b to the spare optical output means 2. The optical path means 4 outputs an optical signal to be output from the active optical output means 1 to the rear stage, and outputs a portion of the optical signal to the spare optical output means 2, and a failure detection means 5 detects the failure of the spare optical fiber 3b, based on the optical level of the optical signal output from the optical path means 4 via the spare optical fiber 3b to the spare optical output means 2. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
