PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backing material for one-side gas shielded arc welding that is capable of sufficiently protecting a backing jig from welding heat, capable of improving outgassing properties of the backing material, and excellent in heat insulating properties, flexibility, adhesion to a welded plate, and performance as a cushioning material. SOLUTION: The backing material for one-side gas shielded arc welding has a backing material body, in which solid flux 1 is laminated on a heat insulating material 3, and an adhesive sheet 5 covering the surface on the heat insulating material 3 side of the backing material body and a part of both side faces of the backing material body. The solid flux 1 has an average thickness of 4 to 8 mm. The heat insulating material 3 has a thickness of 2 to 13 mm. The adhesive sheet 5 covers a region of more than 1/2 of the thickness (t) of the heat insulating material 3 (=1/2t) from the surface of the heat insulating material 3 side on both side faces of the backing material body. A region of 2 mm or more from the surface on the opposite side of the heat insulating material 3 of the solid flux 1 is not covered with the adhesive sheet 5. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
