PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass lens press forming mold and a forming apparatus by which an upper mold is easily moved downward to a fixed position without hitting a forming surface strongly on a glass base material in a stage for assembling the mold before forming to keep the precision of the forming mold and to prolong the life. SOLUTION: The strong contact of the forming surface 3 with the glass base material 30 is prevented by closing a gas releasing hole 20 provided at a proper position and penetrating in the thickness direction of a drum mold 10 with the upper mold 1 moved downward along the inside of the drum mold 10 to change the flow out quantity of a gas in a cavity to act the gas in the cavity as a buffer.
