1,137,506. Oxidation. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 18 March, 1966 [28 April, 1965], No. 17896/65. Heading C2C. In a process for the oxidation of cyclohexane in the liquid phase at elevated temperature and pressure with a gas containing molecular oxygen to form mixtures containing cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone, the major part of residue cyclohexane is removed by distillation in the absence of added water, followed by the addition of water, optionally as steam, and the removal of the remaining cyclohexane as an azeotrope with the water. At least 50% of the cyclohexane, preferably from 85-98% by weight of cyclohexane, is removed in the absence of added water and the product may be further oxidized with nitric acid to adipic acid. |
