PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a television receiver provided with a CM discrimination function capable of discriminating a CM part from a program such as a movie with high reliability that can automatically adjust the sound volume when the CM part is discriminated. SOLUTION: The television receiver is configured such that the television receiver receives a video signal and an audio signal synchronously with the video signal, allows a letter box discrimination circuit 8 to discriminate whether or not the video signal of a video signal of a letter box type as to a selected output object channel, and allows a control section 4 to control an audio processing circuit 6 on the basis of the result of the discrimination so as to adjust an output sound volume of the audio signal.
