FIELD: chemical industry; petrochemical industry; oil-producing industry; other industries; methods of production of the sorbent for waste waters purification from light oil products. ^ SUBSTANCE: the invention is pertaining to the field of the method of production of the sorbent for waste waters purification from light oil products is based on the thermal treatment of the cellulose-containing material. In the capacity of the cellulose-containing material the method uses a high peat of mossy group of the low degree of decomposition, which is preliminary ground with the subsequent granulation till production of granules with the diameter of 2/3 mm, and the thermal treatment conduct at the temperature of 165/175°C without an access of the air within 40/60 minutes. At that before the thermal treatment of the peat granules they are dried up till the humidity of 14/16 % under the natural conditions.
