Permanent recording is prohibited when copy control information with never copy information is added to an audiovisual signal (SAVi") inputted to a processor (10), so that temporary recording is made possible in more situations. A data recording/reproducing device of this invention is provided with a means for determining whether or not the video data is to be recorded with changing from a permanent recording mode to a temporary recording mode, without recording being performed in the permanent recording mode, when never copy information and information of the permanent recording mode are received as additional information. The data recording/reproducing device is further provided with a means for instructing to record the video data on a recording portion (15) in the temporary recording mode when it is determined by the determining means to record the video data with changing to the temporary recording mode.
