PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet recording apparatus in which waste of ink in a marginless recording is remarkably reduced with decreasing generation of ink mist. SOLUTION: The inkjet recording apparatus comprises a medium position detecting means 401 moving on a specified detecting path extending in the main scanning direction accompanied with a recording head, a discriminating means 201 for discriminating an existing region in the main scanning direction of a recording medium existing on a moving path of the recording head, and discharging controlling means 201-207 for controlling ink discharging motion of the recording head in accordance with the existing region of the recording medium discriminated by the discriminating means 201. Here, the discharging controlling means 201 prohibits the ink discharging motion to a region outside of a specified ink discharging region including the existing region regardless of existence of recording data.
