PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a bit map font at a high speed without development from skeletal coordinate data of respective strokes constituting a character pattern to outline data. SOLUTION: The character pattern generating system comprises an input section which inputs input information, such as character codes, typefaces and character sizes, of a character pattern to be generated, a character information storage section which stores the character information including stroke arrangement information consisting of the skeletal coordinate data of the respective strokes constituting the character pattern separately by a character code, a bit map font generating section which reads the stroke arrangement information included in the one character information out of the character information storage section based on the input information inputted by the input section and generates the bit map font based on the skeletal coordinate data of the read out stroke arrangement information, and an output section which outputs the bit map font generated by the bit map font as the one character pattern.
