PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of efficiently performing transmission of information (including information necessary for controlling an image signal and devices) between devices in the image forming apparatus heretofore employed. SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus comprises an image input means 1, a memory means 5 for storing an image signal input from the image input means 1, an image output means 2, and a transmission means 7 for transmitting the image signal input from the image input means 1 or stored in the memory means to another image forming apparatus. The image forming apparatus further comprises an operating means 4 that designates a time period until an input/output operation of the image signal is completed when an input or output operation of the image signal is requested, and a system control means 3 having a function of judging that the operation of input/output of data can be operated within the time period until the input/output operation of the designated image signal is completed, and notifying of the judged result through the operating means 4.
