PURPOSE: A method for detecting the quantity of food in a process of cooking of a microwave oven is provided to obtain a satisfactory food by controlling the amount of heating energy. CONSTITUTION: A method for detecting the quantity of food in a process of cooking of a microwave oven comprises the steps of predetermining many reference voltage values, sensing the voltage value of a temperature sensor(30) in a cavity depending on the application of power and the elapse of heating time, sensing the reaching of the voltage value of the temperature sensor to a second reference voltage value after reaching to a first reference value, and deciding the quantity of the food in the cavity depending on the elapse time from a first reference voltage sensing point to a second reference voltage sensing point.
