PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an expansion arm device capable of suppressing troubles of an expansion arm mechanism, damages of an obstacle, or the like when the expansion arm mechanism operating in an expanding direction hits the obstacle. SOLUTION: The expansion arm device comprises a base part and an expansion arm mechanism 3 having an arm expandably provided on the base part and a drive unit to operate the arm in the expanding direction. The expansion arm device further comprises an overload reducing mechanism 200 which has a detection unit 230 to detect that the expansion arm mechanism 3 operating in the expanding direction hits an obstacle and reduces or stops expansion of the expansion arm mechanism 3 according to the detection by the detection unit 230.
