A lampholder comprises inner and outer coaxial shells 12, 10, shell 12 having tabs 27 slidable in shell 10 being supported by a spring 14, and a separate base member 16 formed from two interfitting members 34, 36 and provided with two lateral tubular extensions such as 46 (see Fig. 1), in each of which is fixed a contact such as 18, having a leaf spring 58 engaging a base contact 80 on a lamp 78. The other ends of the contacts are either provided with tubular portions recessed in the extensions for engagement with a plug, or are provided with leads. The springs 58 are received in separate compartments provided by a wall (42, Fig. 1) In Fig. 5, the lower end of the outer shell is crimped over the base of the member 16. In a modification (Fig. 9) the lower end of the outer shell snaps into an annular groove in the base member.
