<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control a range/direction wherein display light can be normally and visually recognized in all directions by expanding a visible area wherein a display image can be normally and visually recognizes in one direction in a liquid crystal display device which cannot perform a phase difference compensation based on birefringence over all directions and causes brightness drop and solarization (black-and-white reversal) in the one direction. <P>SOLUTION: There is arranged, on the side of an observer of a liquid crystal display element; a light scattering film in which dark and light parts are formed in proportion to the magnitude of an internal refractive index in accordance with the shape of a part of different refractive indexes and its distribution, and the parts with different refractive indexes are distributed in a layer shape while inclined in the thickness direction of the film, and which has an anisotropic light scattering characteristic corresponding to the direction of inclination of the layer shape. The direction of inclination is made to coincide with a direction in which the phase difference of the liquid crystal display element based on birefringence cannot be sufficiently compensated. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
