摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a self-ignition type internal combustion engine in which not only a low fuel cost and low emission can be achieved by self-ignition and combustion under the compressing operation of a piston but also a range in which a stable self-ignition operation can be performed can be greatly enlarged. SOLUTION: In the self-ignition type internal combustion engine, an ignition reaction accelerating element is directly supplied to a combustion chamber (point P) before a dead center on compression synchronously with a crank angle, main fuel in the combustion chamber is mixed with the ignition reaction accelerating element (point Q). Thus, the ignition reaction of an air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber is accelerated and induced. Further, the self-ignition of the air-fuel mixture is caused (point R) via the further compression of the piston after the supply of the ignition reaction accelerating element. Thus, even in a low load area where an ignition failure generally occurs, the self- ignition is sufficiently caused for an operation. Further, a time or the amount of the supply of the ignition reaction accelerating element is suitably changed to control the ignition time. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
