A fiber resin plastic (FRP) based bicycle rim (10) includes an FRP body (12) and a metal tire receiving ring (14). The FRP body (12) has first (20) and second (22) side surfaces, an annular outer edge surface (41), and an annula r inner edge surface (24). The annular inner edge surface (24) includes at lea st two spoke receiving ports (38) for receiving and supportively coupling at least two spokes (34) to the FRP body (12). The metal tire receiving ring (1 4) is coupled to the FRP body (12) and is disposed radially outwardly of the FR P body (12). The tire receiving ring (14) includes first (52) and second (54), generally parallel continuous braking surfaces.
