PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a reliable valve timing control even in occurrence of failure such as inability to carry a current to a part of electromagnetic coils. SOLUTION: In a valve timing control device, an electromagnetic operation force is imparted to an assembling angle operating mechanism 5 by an operation force imparting means 4, and the mechanism 5 relatively turns a drive plate 3 and a lever shaft 10 to control the opening/closing timing of an engine valve. The operation force imparting means 4 is provided with a main electromagnetic coil 64, a sub electromagnetic coil 65 arranged parallel to the main coil 64, an abnormality judging means 70 for judging current-carrying abnormality in the main coil 64, and a switching means 71 for switching the current carrying at operation from the main coil 64 to the sub coil 65 when judged to be abnormal by the judging means 70. Therefore, when there is current-carrying abnormality in the main coil 64, the sub coil 65 generates an electromagnetic force.
