PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detecting apparatus, for the taint damage of an insulator, by which the taint damage of the insulator is always monitored and by which the taint damage state of the insulator can be grasped surely. SOLUTION: In this detecting apparatus for a taint damage, a sensor 3 which is provided with an antenna function used to detect electromagnetic waves generated when an insulator is disfeatured and which is provided with an electrode function to be capacitively coupled to the insulator is installed. The output signal portion of an antenna 5 for external-noise detection is removed from the high-frequency output signal of the sensor, and the influence of an external noise is excluded. A signal processing circuit 35 creates a signal, which is turned on near the peak of an applied voltage, on the basis of the low-frequency output signal of the sensor, and it controls a gate circuit 42. A judgment circuit 43 judges the existence of the stain of the insulator on the basis of an electromagnetic signal which appears near the peak of the applied voltage.
