Document (5) fixed on scanning drum (1) is point-wise illuminates by light spot (8') to scan image on document. Scanning light modulated by the document contents is focussed and converted into image signal. Light density of light spot is measured and document illumination is adjusted depending on measured light density by changing imaging scale with which light spot image is formed on document. An Independent claim is also included for an arrangement for point- and line-wise document scanning
