The invention concerns a method of producing a kitchen utensil such as a pan, saucepan, roasting dish, ... or the like made of metal (such as aluminium, aluminium alloy, magnesium or magnesium alloy) provided with a nonstick coating on the stressed surface areas (e.g. on the inside). According to the method, a hard material layer, such as a hard anodisation layer or similar anodisation layer, is formed to the metal surface once the latter has undergone (for example) a roughing process and the nonstick layer is then applied to the potentially sticking surface areas. Before the hard material layer is formed, a resistant surface layer is applied to those surface areas of the article which do not require the coating system (hard material layer or the like, with or without the nonstick layer).
