The process for predicting and determining skidding conditions due to ice, frost and snow on roadways and other travelled surfaces, wherein spectral analysis with reflected or diffuse radiation is used to determine whether the roadway is dry, wet or slick, is characterized in that measurable variables, including at least the roadway temperature, are measured, their change over time is extrapolated and, based thereon, the point in time at which a skidding condition will occur is calculated in advance and signalled.
