Physiologically acceptable carboxymethylamino-substd. acetamide derivs. of formula (I) and their salts with bases are new. n = 0-2; R1 and R2 = H, lower alkyl, phenyl or benzyl, or where n= zero, together are trimethylene or tetramethylene; R3 = satd., unsatd., linear, branched or cyclic up to 16C hydrocarbyl, or aryl or aralkyl (opt. substd. by 1 or more 1-6C dialkylamino and/or 4-6C alkoxy); R4 = satd., unsatd. linear, branched or cyclic up to 16C hydrocarbyl or, when R3 = cycloalkyl, or opt. substd. aryl or aralkyl, it can also be H; X = H and/or metal ion equiv., Y = COOX or CONR3R4. Alos new are theanhydride intermediates of formula (VI); m = 0 or 1; R5 = 1-6C alkyl.
