A unit which is useful in a measuring device such as a vibration rod transducer. The unit comprises supported diamond layer or layers 12 having an unsupported bridging diamond strip 18 which is integrally formed with the supported diamond layer(s). The supported diamond layers may form part of a closed configuration such as a circle, square, rectangle or triangle. The diamond is preferably CVD diamond.
