ADAPTIVE TREE CODING SYSTEM FOR PICTURE SIGNAL

摘要

PURPOSE:To attain the coding at a low bit rate by applying coding till a picture element to be coded at a future point of time from a coded picture element so as to select an optimum path. CONSTITUTION:The predicted error of a picture signal X is obtained by adding (5) a sample value to a predicted sample value of a prediction device 2a and the result is outputted to a quantizer 1a. A picture is split into a prescribed block by the quantizer 1a and a quantization level with an excellent coding efficiency is decided for each block. The predicted error signal quantized in this way is coded by a tree coder 4 and a coded signal Y is outputted while a path is selected to obtain a minimum quantized distortion is obtained by taking it account how much effect is given to the succeeding quantizing characteristic by the quantized output at the coding.
