PURPOSE:To attain character conversion without depressing a character sort specifying key by automatically changing the sort of characters every time each input position is changed and each input item is changed. CONSTITUTION:An input position, i.e., a cursor position, is registered as shown in a character sort corresponding table 7 such that the 1st line indicates the character sort of 'KANA' (Japanese syllabary) and a 2nd line indicates the character sort of 'KATAKANA' (square form of Japanese syllabary). As practical input items as shown in the drawing, reading, writing and ranking are respectively inputted in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd lines. In this case, the position of the cursor 11 is moved to the initial position in a 1st line by an input position specifying key as shown in figure A. Consequently, information indicating the 'KANA' character sort is outputted by the table 7 and transmitted to a display means 8 and 'KANA' is displayed on a character sort displaying area 10 specified on a display screen 9.
