PURPOSE:To improve the consumption unit, to reduce the cost, and to improve the workability by using electric energization heating to heat a stock to be heated for rolling. CONSTITUTION:After positioning a fixed carriage 32 and a movable carriage 33, a controller 7 extends each cylinder of an electrode support member of respective carriages 32, 33 to bring the electrode members into press contact with the forward and rear ends of a steel stock and to be electrically connected. After putting the stock onto a heating device 3, the controller 7 actuates an electric source 6 to output a prescribed direct current from the positive terminal to energize and heat the stock. Thus, the consumption unit and the efficiency are improved and the cost is reduced. Further, reduction of the equipment cost and improvement of the workability are performed because the electric energization heating is concurrent heating across the total length, a heat holding zone is eliminated, and matching a heating speed to a rolling mill speed is facilitated.
