<p>PURPOSE:To obtain pig iron for a casting having the desired composition by placing a steel scrap preheating jig in a vessel, preheating steel scraps on the platform of the jig, pouring molten pig iron, and introducing it into the steel scraps from the lower part to completely melt the steel scraps. CONSTITUTION:A steel scrap preheating jig 2 provided with a preheating source feeding pipe 3 is placed in the central part of a vessel 8, and steel scraps 6 are put on the platform 1 of the jig 2 having a molten pig iron pouring inlet 7. Combustible gas or air is fed into the pipe 3 and heated to preheat the steel scraps 6. When the scraps 6 are preheated to a proper temp., molten pig iron 12 is poured into the inlet 7. The poured molten pig iron rises from the lower part of the preheated steel scraps 6 and enters readily the gaps among the scraps 6. By this method, pig iron satisfying nearly the desired composition is obtd.</p> |
