PURPOSE:To provide a slow cooling device which permits easy change of states between slow cooling state and non-slow cooling state by providing a duct which consists of heat-insulating walls, is formed internally with a coil conveying route and cools slowly coils by utilizing the latent heat thereof and a means for setting the volume of the slow cooling region of the duct from zero to prescribed volume. CONSTITUTION:The coil 5 is conveyed to the inside of the duct 8 and is slowly cooled in the case of cooling slowly the coil 5. The volume of the slow cooling region of the duct 8 is set to the desired volume by opening the walls 15-18, 33, 34 of the duct 8, by which the slow cooling conditions are set and the satisfactory slow cooling of the coil 5 is executed. The slow cooling volume of the duct 8 is made zero by opening the walls 15-18, 33, 34 of the duct 8 and the coil 5 is passed through the inside of the duct 8 in this state. In the figure, 1 denotes the entire part of the slow cooling installation and 2 denotes a coiler, respectively.
