PURPOSE:To obtain, with good operability, a chlorinated polyethylene composition having excellent flexibility, by blending a low-crystallinity chlorinated polyethylene with a crystalline ethylene copolymer and effecting silane/water crosslinking of the blend in the pellet form. CONSTITUTION:A chlorinated polyethylene, crystallinity <5%, is blended with a crystalline ethylene copolymer (e.g., ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer) so that the apparent crystallinity of the entire system is 5-20%. The purpose composition is prepared by forming the resulting composition into pellets and subjecting the pellets to silane/water crosslinking with the aid of a silane represented by the formula: RXSiR'2, wherein R is a monovalent olefinically unsaturated group, R' is a hydrolyzable group and X is R or R' (e.g., vinyltrimethoxysilane), a free-radical generator (e.g., lauroyl peroxide) and a silanol condensation catalyst (e.g., dibutyltin dilaurate). |
