The cutting tool (1) has an interchangeable cutting bit (3) secured in a slot between two jaws formed at the forward end (2) of the tool. A bolt (25) through an opening in the jaws clamps the bit against the inclined faces (41,51) of two symmetrically arranged wedges (4,5) which are laterally adjustable (6) relative to one another. The bit is symmetrical about a radial plane through the bolt axis and can be rotated about that axis. The wedge faces (41,51) have an additional inclination which corresponds with the cut-back clearance angle of the faces of the bit which are not in use.
