The fluidised bed sifter for dividing granular material into its two fractions, has a casing into which material falls from above, while air is blown in below. The fine material passes downwards into a collector chamber (8) underneath and the coarse material is discharged through an outlet (12) at the end opposite the feed point (11). The fine material passes through perforated walls which form the base of the fluidised bed chamber. These walls run longitudinally between the feed end and the coarse fraction delivery end, and may slope inwards towards each other to form a funnel with air blown through a channel (4) below.
