1322309 Power-assisted steering ZAHNRADFABRIK FRIEDRICHSHAFEN AG 12 May 1972 [14 May 1971] 22289/72 Heading B7H An hydraulic power steering apparatus which comprises a supply pump 3, control valve 2, control pump 20 and steering motor 8 is provided with an electrical system for synchronizing the angular position of the steering wheel and of the steered wheels. Potentiometers 27, 28 are mounted on the shaft 19, which drives the control pump 20, and on the track rod 17 respectively. Their outputs are fed to an amplifier 29 which produces an output only when the two potentiometers are not exactly synchronized and which powers a reversible electric motor 26 which operates a valve 24 to shortcircuit the control pump 20 until coincidence is re-established. In the event of the failure of pump 3, the electric system is switched off by pressure switch 12 and manual steering is possible. |
