1483977 Printing plates DE LA RUE GIORI SA 14 July 1975 [30 July 1974] 29445/75 Heading B6C An intaglio printing plate has an overall layer 2 of a first material which, upon wetting, becomes ink-repellent, and, overlying this in the intaglio recesses, an ink-accepting second material 3. The first layer may be chromium or anodized aluminium. The second layer may be a heat-hardened or light-hardened varnish. The plate may be made by applying material 3 overall, and removing by abrasion or solvent except in the intaglio areas. The layer may be partially hardened prior to removal, e.g. in a ball-graining machine, and hardening then completed. The second layer may alternatively be a chemically or electrolytically deposited metal, e.g. Cu, Ni or Fe.
