A luminaire is described for mounting on walls or ceilings for the indirect illumination of halls, in particular of sports halls (gymnasiums), having a housing of trough-shaped design, the housing receiving at least one luminaire means and a reflector. The housing is, then, designed such that an asymmetric light distribution results, which produces as uniform as possible a luminance distribution when the luminaire according to the invention is arranged correspondingly on a ceiling of a hall.
