PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reliable and efficient process for removing a catalyst from a reaction solution to obtain an isobutylene-based polymer, wherein the separability between organic and water phases is enhanced by controlling the amount of water to be used in the step of washing away the catalyst from the reaction solution. SOLUTION: The preparation process of the isobutylene-based polymer comprises the steps of deactivating a catalyst by treating a reaction solution containing the isobutylene-based polymer after polymerization with water, removing a water phase and washing the solution with water in the volume of 25-15% relative to the volume of the above solution.
