PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner capable of preventing breakage of components with a simple constitution even when the operation is started in a state that communication wiring connecting an indoor unit and an outdoor unit is incorrectly distributed. SOLUTION: The indoor unit 10 has an indoor-side transmitting-receiving portion 15 connected with a signal line L3 and using a photocoupler, and an indoor control portion 12 connected between a power source line L1 and the signal line L3 and controlling a relay MR10 on the basis of relay MR10 in an opened state and the output of the indoor-side transmitting-receiving portion 15 in standby. The outdoor unit 20 has an outdoor-side transmitting-receiving portion 25 connected with the signal line L3 and using the photocoupler, and a power source circuit 23 to which electric power is supplied from two power source lines L1, L2. The indoor control portion 12 of the indoor unit 10 does not bring the relay MR10 in a closed state, when it determines that the communication wiring connecting the indoor unit 10 and the outdoor unit is incorrect on the basis of the receiving output of the indoor-side transmitting-receiving portion 15, when the operation is started from the standby state where the power supply of the outdoor unit 20 is stopped.
