The present disclosure may be applied to intelligent services based on the 5G communication technology and the IoT-related technology, such as smart home, smart building, smart city, smart car, connected car, health care, digital education, smart retail, security and safety services. The present invention describes a method of determining proximity of an entity in a device to device (D2D) communication network. The method comprises receiving by a first entity, a message from a second entity, ascertaining by the first entity, a first power information of a signal at which the message being received at the first entity, determining by the first entity, a second power information of the signal at which the message being transmitted by the second entity, determining by the first entity, path loss based on processing the first power information and the second power information, and determining by the first entity, the proximity of the second entity from the first entity based on the determined path loss. |
