PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To arrange that light can be emitted into water efficiently for a long period of time. SOLUTION: This underwater illumination device 1 is equipped with a ceiling cover 2 which forms an internal space S that stocks air A in the water W and which has an aperture 2a on the lower side of the internal space S that communicates the internal space S with the outside water W, and a light emitter 3 which is positioned in the air A stored in the internal space S, and positioned so as not to be immersed into the external water W invading through the aperture 2a and which is arranged to emit light into the external water W through the aperture 2a.
