A lamp fixture for vehicles and for projecting light is so devised that the degradation of the transmittance of the projection lens of the lamp fixture and the degradation of the intensity of the projected light are minimized, the optical characteristics are not impaired, and the color breakup is lessened. The lamp fixture comprises a light source, a reflector, a shade, and the projection lens. The light from the light source is reflected from the reflector. Part of the light is blocked by the shade. The light not blocked is transmitted through the projection lens and projected forward. A diffraction grating for reducing the color breakup is provided to a part of the projection lens including the edge portion of the light transmitting region of at least a surface of the projection lens. When f is the focal distance of the lens determined by the peripheral light passing through the edge portion and fD is the focal distance of the diffracting plane determined by the peripheral light passing through the edge portion, the magnitude of fD/f and the position along the optical axis of the shade are determined depending on the correlation color temperature of the light source so that the color breakup due to the characteristics of the light source may be lessened. |
