The present invention relates to: a nematic liquid crystal composition which has a positive dielectric anisotropy (∆&egr;), and which is useful as a liquid crystal display material; and a liquid crystal display element using same. This liquid crystal composition has a liquid crystal phase in a broad temperature range, a low viscosity, excellent solubility at low temperatures, a high specific resistance and voltage retention rate, and is stable with respect to heat and light. Accordingly, by using said liquid crystal composition, an IPS-type, TN-type, or other type liquid crystal display element, which exhibits excellent display quality, and with which display defects such as ghosting and drip marks are inhibited, can be provided in high yields. A liquid crystal display element using this liquid crystal composition is useful for both inhibiting display defects and achieving high-speed responsiveness, is particularly useful as an active matrix driven liquid crystal display element, and is applicable to VA mode, PSVA mode, or TN mode liquid crystal display elements. |
