[Class 74 (ii)] A knitted stocking having integrally knitted leg, heel and foot portions and in which the foot is formed by reciprocatory knitting, with the sole 28 of one yarn and the instep 26 of another yarn, has a gore 19, 20 formed by reciprocatory knitting between the heel 17, 18 and the foot. By providing a gore having a narrowed part 20 as well as the widened part 19, the gore terminates at wales other than those forming the junctions between the sole and instep yarns. The lower part of the leg may also be knitted by reciprocatory knitting, the rear forming a high splice and being knitted of one yarn; the front is knitted of another yarn. The leg and instep may be English broad rib, i.e., 6 x 3, or may have a design formed by changing the rib formation or by changing from plain or rib to purl knitting. The stocking may be knitted upon a machine as described in Specification 543,871, and stockings knitted in succession may be held temporarily together by a draw thread, as described in Specification 400,623. Stockings with right and left toes may be knitted as described in U.S.A. Specification 461,183; the big toe side of the stocking is shown in Fig. 1, no narrowing occurring until the point 34, whereas on the little toe side narrowing begins immediately after the knitting of the ring toe 32.
