When executing kickdown, a transmission ECU of a CVT: obtains (step S232) an ascending gradient (ΔNkd) that corresponds to the current accelerator opening degree (Acc) and the current vehicle speed range (SRp) from among ascending gradients (ΔNkd) that are set for each accelerator opening degree and each of a plurality of vehicle speed ranges (SR) after an input rotation speed (Nin) increases in accordance with a target input rotation speed (Nin*) that is set at a step S220; and sets (step S234) the target input rotation speed (Nin*) so that the input rotation speed (Nin) changes in accordance with the ascending gradient (ΔNkd) that corresponds to the current accelerator opening degree (Acc) and the current vehicle speed range (SRp) until the target input rotation speed (Nin*) reaches a next upshift rotation speed (Ninup).
