PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording apparatus allowing for multilayer recording and multi-valued recording.SOLUTION: The magnetic recording apparatus comprises: a magnetic recording medium including a first recording layer having a first magnetic resonance frequency and a second recording layer stacked on the first recording layer and having a second magnetic resonance frequency different from the first magnetic resonance frequency; a magnetic recording head for writing multi-valued information to the magnetic recording medium; and a magnetic reproducing head for reading the multi-valued information from the magnetic recording medium. The magnetic recording head includes a high-frequency oscillation element that magnetically assists the first and second recording layers in writing the information. The high-frequency oscillation element changeovers first and second oscillatory frequencies respectively corresponding to the first and second magnetic resonance frequencies, and applies the frequencies to the magnetic recording medium, thereby changing the magnetization of either one of the first and second recording layers.
