Saturated aliphatic halides of the general formula <FORM:1081139/C3/1> in which X represents a halogen atom and each of R1, R2, R3, R4 is a hydrogen or halogen atom, an alkyl radical, an alkenyl radical, or a halogenated alkyl or alkenyl radical; each of the substituents R1, R2, R3, R4 being the same or different from one another are polymerized to give polymer or copolymer containing <FORM:1081139/C3/2> chains in their molecule, where n is an integer greater than 1, by bringing the halides into contact with a Lewis acid catalyst in the absence of oxygen, and bringing them to a temperature sufficiently high to allow hydrogen halides to be formed by the reaction of a halogen atom from one molecule with a hydrogen atom from another molecule. |
