The engine has a fuel injector (10) that directly injects the fuel into a combustion chamber (14) of the respective cylinders through a stepped hole (21) or an injection hole (17), when a valve housing (15) is lifted from a valve seat (16) of the fuel injector. The fuel injector protrudes into the combustion chamber of the respective cylinders, such that a prevailing temperature is less than a threshold temperature at the injection hole and a boundary temperature at which 60% vaporized fuel fraction and 85% vaporized fuel fraction is present is provided.
