<p>A method is disclosed comprising receiving an uncompressed access point (AP) identifier 401, which may be found in a radio signal observed at a location; determining a compressed identifier corresponding to the uncompressed identifier 402, where the compressed identifier corresponds to a plurality of access points comprised in a radio map; and associating at least one of the plurality of APs with the uncompressed identifier 404 based at least in part on the location. The compressed identifier preferably comprises fewer bits than the uncompressed identifier. The plurality of APs may be represented in the radio map by the compressed identifier. The uncompressed identifier may be used to represent the at least one AP in the radio map 405. An indication that the uncompressed identifier was associated with the at least one AP based on the location may be stored. A second location may be determined, wherein if a second uncompressed identifier was assigned to a second AP by a radio map server, the at least one AP will be given a lower priority than the second AP. The provision of radio map files with compressed identifiers to user equipment allows them to obtain their positions quickly, while reducing the size of the data files.</p> |
