<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem wherein it is difficult to enhance display quality in a liquid crystal device having a partially removed retardation film. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device has: first and second substrates 51 and 81 opposed to each other; a liquid crystal 19 interposed between the first and the second substrates 51 and 81; a retardation film 95 interposed between the second substrate 81 and the liquid crystal 19; and a second alignment layer 97 interposed between the retardation film 95 and the liquid crystal 19 and regulating an alignment state of the liquid crystal 19. An inclined surface inclined to the second substrate 81 is provided at an edge part 96a of the retardation film 95, the inclined surface is covered by the second alignment layer 97, the second alignment layer 97 is subjected to rubbing treatment, the retardation film 95 has at least two sides crossing a rubbing direction in the rubbing treatment in plan view, and the inclined surfaces in respective two sides have mutually different inclined angles to the second substrate 81. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
