Class 120(ii) A yarn traverse mechanism for a winding machine comprises a pair of substantially identical cam-like members 24 each having a heart-shaped yarn guiding surface 52 provided with a peak 54 and a dwell 55, means for rotatably mounting the cam members and driving them at the same speed with their yarn-guiding surfaces adjacent and facing each other to define a yarn-guiding slit, the members being so positioned that the peak 54 of one member is opposite the dwell 55 of the other member. The cam members, which are of conical form, as shown, are attached to shafts 34 inclined at 120 degrees to each other and rotated, in ball bearings, by a shaft 30 driven from a pulley 16 which also drives the winding spindle 12. The members 24 which may be lightened by apertures 57 and dynamically balanced are contained in a casing 25, slit down the middle thereof, for threading-up, and provided with a rectangular slot 46 in the top through which the yarn comes in contact with a roller 26. The cone-angle of the member 24 is 30 degrees so that they may, if desired, be used to rotate the package as a drum-winding machine. |
